DIY: Treat Yourself
May 25, 2010
I think if I was one of my neighbors, I'd be looking for a creative excuse to pop over to my apartment and see what's cooking. So many recipes, so little time. But, once the summer hits, I start looking for options that keep me from needing to turn on the oven. And main meals aside, one treat that monopolizes my attention is blended drinks. Though I'm not very big on desserts, I am a bit of a smoothie and icy coffee drink addict. So, it only makes sense that a DIY type of girl like myself would have a few recipes to share. Not only will you save a little change, you may just find mixing to your taste a refreshing break from the norm.
Strawberry Smoothie
1 cup fresh strawberries or 1/4 cup frozen strawberries
2 ounces vanilla yogurt
2 tsp sugar
3 Tbsp milk
1 cup ice
Blender
In a blender, combine 1 cup of crushed ice, 2 ounces vanilla yogurt, 1 cup of strawberries, 2 rounded teaspoons sugar and 3 tablespoons milk. Blend until smooth and serve immediately.
Orange Glorious
1 cup milk
1 cup ice water
1 (6 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate
12 cubes ice, crushed
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/8 cup white sugar
Mocha Frappuccino (for the Starbucks lover)
4 cup double-strength coffee, cold
3 Tbs granulated sugar
1 cup low-fat milk
2 cups ice
3 Tbs caramel topping
whipped cream
3 Tbs Hersheys Chocolate Syrup
Make double-strength coffee by brewing with twice the coffee required by your coffee maker: That should be 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per each cup of coffee. Chill before using. Then, combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until ice is crushed and drink is smooth. Pour into two 16-ounce glasses and serve.
