This summer will mark 11 years natural for me. I initially decided to stop wearing my hair chemically straightened because I suffer from eczema on my scalp and was concerned that it would cause me to have premature hair loss as I aged. I'm glad that I did it; though it didn't solve my eczema issue — it did greatly lessen the severity and really improved the health of my hair. I grew my hair out for about seven years and was obsessed with my big kinky afro, but when I started to notice more frequent scalp agitation about four years ago, I cut it back down to the low cropped look. On a whim this past fall, I decided to grow it back out. I love it long and short; and I've done just about everything to my hair except straighten it since my big chop, but my choice-product list has changed very little.
Here's what I've been loving for my kinky coily locs ... a couple of staples and a few new additions.
My go-to for moisture. I use it for two-strand twists.
I only recently started using this shampoo and conditioner. Obsessed.
This oil is all organic and even though it was created for the body, I love it for my hair.
[My choice scent: Carrot Zesty Lime]
Great for an itchy scalp.
Once I cut my hair, I really loved to lighten it (with my mom's supervision) and
I always used Dark and Lovely Fade Resist.
